In automatic cars, transmission fluid also acts as a coolant and as a method of transferring engine power to the transmission. Over time as the metal parts in your transmission gradually wear down, transmission fluid becomes contaminated with tiny metal particles and shavings which affect its ability to lubricate the transmission properly. Periodically replacing the transmission fluid will prolong the life of your car’s transmission, but you should also buy transmission fluid for topping-up every so often between car services. If you run low on transmission fluid you may experience difficulty in changing gears and eventually may not be able to change gears at all – which means an expensive garage bill!
